Occupied buildings are permanently under renovation somewhere. Screws through bundles, runs cut during demolition, and cable relocated without documentation are the leading cause of sudden multi-drop failures in Midtown and downtown office space.

Above the ceiling, look for whatever is newest. A recently added sprinkler head, a relocated diffuser, a new demising wall or a fresh lighting layout will usually be within a few feet of the damage.
