What does a commercial system actually cost in Queens?All-in, $500–$2,500 per camera installed. A small retail or restaurant system of 4–8 cameras commonly runs $4,000–$15,000; a 16-camera warehouse in LIC or Maspeth can reach $30,000 with PTZ, LPR, and long retention. Cabling and camera mix drive the spread, so we quote a fixed price after a survey.
Why is labor so much of the price?The cabling is the work. Labor runs roughly $75–$150/hour or $150–$300 per camera. A multi-tenant building or older industrial structure with conduit runs is far more labor than a finished open office.

How do I avoid a bad low-bid installer in Queens?Be wary of anyone who quotes without a site survey, uses unnamed off-brand cameras, or can’t explain your network. The cheapest quote almost always changes mid-job. Ask for a NYS license number, a written fixed-price scope, and Queens references of similar size.
Do I really need a licensed contractor?In New York, installing and maintaining security systems requires a NYS license. A licensed low-voltage contractor also knows code-compliant cabling, fire-stopping, and the privacy rules a handyman doesn’t. DIY vs professional
Can I buy a kit and self-install for my Queens business?For a tiny shop with two cameras, maybe. For anything multi-camera, multi-tenant, or compliance-sensitive, DIY usually costs more once you hit network integration, cabling through brick and rated walls, and legal placement and notice rules.
What goes wrong with consumer wireless cameras in a business?Wireless cameras lag and drop in warehouses, metal buildings, and across large floors. Commercial systems are wired PoE for reliability and continuous recording.

Compliance & legal
Do NYC’s biometric and signage rules apply to my cameras?In New York City, Local Law 3 requires conspicuous signage and bars selling biometric data where you use facial recognition, with DCWP enforcement. Standard motion or person detection generally isn’t biometric — we post compliant notice and tell you which side your system is on.
Can I record audio, and do I have to tell employees?We disable audio by default — New York is one-party-consent and a camera capturing conversations can be illegal eavesdropping under Penal Law §250.05. New York’s Electronic Monitoring law also requires written employee notice, and cameras can’t go in bathrooms or locker rooms (§250.45).
